Life Celebration #5

Food festivals! One of the nicest things about living in Italy!
You name it, they can make a festival for it. They have festivals for onions (ugh), apples, frogs, pasta, cheese (of course), beef, rice, to name just a few. Every second village has its own food festival.

Last Sunday we went to the porcini festival in the little village of Quassolo just down the drag from us. Here are some shots.

Glorious porcini (ceps) mushrooms! Only 20 euros a kilo.

Wine cellars tucked away in the old village buildings. You can only see them on festival days.

The wine press.

Look at those keys!

The old mill wheel (now unused but the water still flows)

Mossy millstone.

Everyone does their bit. The mayor of the town and her henchmen posed for us.

The dish of the day - Polenta, stew and porcini mushrooms - and they were delicious!

Eaten in a big tent at a long table with lots of other hungry visitors.

What a wonderful celebration of life and community!

Do you have food festivals in your community? What are they like?
